Leslie didn’t plan her whole life to go to Oxford.
She went to a small Bible college in Texas. She was working full-time for a church. She was married, working full-time, studying full-time at night – and she had a professor who told her once: if you want to be taken seriously, you need to study outside this country.
So one day, she describes it exactly this way, “she felt it in her spirit”. Oxford – that’s where she needed to go!
What came next was almost a year and a half of trying to figure out how on earth to actually get there. The Oxford website is broad and often confusing. There’s no roadmap. Nobody prepares you. And when you’re coming from a small seminary in Houston and applying to one of the most competitive postgraduate programmes in the world, the internal voice gets very loud:

Anabell grew up in El Salvador and spent years believing places like Oxbridge simply weren’t for people like her.
Not because she wasn’t capable — she was!
She’d switched degrees mid-stream when she realised interior architecture wasn’t where she belonged, moved to France alone at 23, learned French from scratch over two and a half years, then went back to university and graduated first in her class.
She followed that with a Master’s with excellent grades in migration and economic inequality — because she wanted to understand why people like her neighbours in El Salvador were forced to leave, and what could be done about it.
Oxford and LSE had the exact programmes she needed. They fit like a glove.
But she almost didn’t apply!
She hadn’t gone to a prestigious university. She was 31. She’d studied something completely different before sociology. And she had, in her own words, severe imposter syndrome.
What shifted things was watching a friend from exactly her background get into Oxford for a law master’s. If he could do it, she thought, maybe she could too.

Megan had already decided she wasn’t a “grad school person”.
She graduated, went into publishing, and spent a year or so in the industry before she realised what she’d been missing:

My story to Oxford & Cambridge acceptance isn’t the classic success story. And I definitely didn’t get here on the first try!
When I first applied for Master’s and PhDs, I thought I knew what I was doing. I had good grades, an honours degree from a top 30 global university, and a deeply personal reason to apply — I wanted to cure my twin sister’s rare autoimmune neurological disease, and had been driven by that since I was seven years old.
But I had no idea that I had no idea what I was doing!
*cue the never-ending anxiety, a steady stream of rejections across 10+ programmes, and ultimately, believing my dream was dead.*
When I finally gathered the courage to try again, I knew my approach had to change completely. And that different approach changed everything.
This is a picture of my actual email inbox just 4 months after I changed my approach – I went from 10+ rejections without a single interview invite, to having to turn down interview requests because I couldn’t fit them all in! ⤵️
I chose Oxford. And I turned down a fully funded Cambridge Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) to do it.
I was awarded the Clarendon Scholarship — Oxford’s most prestigious full scholarship, awarded to approximately 100 of the best incoming graduate scholars across disciplines worldwide. 🤯
And I’ve since gone on to win over £1 million in research funding and fellowships, including my current Benson Clinical Research Fellowship as an Academic Research Fellow at Oxford.
Not because I was the most impressive person in the room, but because I finally understood how the game actually worked — and I learned to play it properly.

Here’s something worth saying before you go any further.
I’ve found there’s a version of Oxford, Cambridge, and other elite universities that lives in the public imagination – a pure meritocracy where the best minds rise on the strength of their ideas alone, regardless of background or connections.
(of course we all want education to be “the great equaliser”, right?)
That version isn’t entirely wrong. But it is incomplete.
The truth — and I say this as someone who now lives and works inside these institutions — is that Oxbridge postgraduate admissions has always run on two parallel tracks:

→ And then there’s the unofficial one: the supervisor relationships built months before submission, the funding opportunities shared through backstage networks, and the unwritten expectations that nobody publishes on a departmental webpage.
(it’s especially those last two that really messed me up the first time I applied, resulting in what can only be called a catastrophic failure 😫)
People who grew up adjacent to these institutions absorb the unofficial track without realising it. The knowledge is simply in the air around them!
But for everyone else, that knowledge has historically been a matter of luck:

Q: Does this Toolkit work for both Master’s and PhD applicants?
A: Yes! I designed all of the advice inside this application guide to apply to both Master’s AND PhD applicants, whether your postgraduate course of choice is taught, research-based, or a mixture of both.
Q: Will this Toolkit work for any discipline?
A: Yes, the tools and strategies inside this application guide are widely applicable to any application in almost any discipline! However, as I answer below, I don’t have expertise in professional postgraduate courses like those in business, law, or medicine (ie, graduate-entry medical school). In these cases, I can’t say whether this Toolkit will be as effective for you.
Q: Will this Toolkit work for other UK universities besides Oxbridge?
A: Yes! While this application guide is particularly geared towards Oxbridge applicants due to the hyper-competitive nature of admissions as well as unique aspects of the admissions process not found elsewhere, I followed the exact same strategies contained in this guide to secure interviews and acceptances not only to Oxford and Cambridge, but also to top funded graduate programmes across the UK. This includes King’s College London (KCL), University College London (UCL), and The University of Edinburgh. Previous students have used the information inside this Toolkit to get accepted to to the London School of Economics (LSE), UCL, KCL, Edinburgh, Imperial College London, QMUL, the University of St Andrews, the University Glasgow, Stanford, NYU, and more – often with scholarships.
Q: Will this Toolkit work for US graduate school applications?
A: While much of the information and strategies contained in this applicaton guide will have wide applicability to any graduate application, it is not designed for the admissions process in the US, which, importantly, is distinct from UK postgraduate admissions. That said, some of my students have still had success getting accepted to US graduate programmes using the Application Accelerator Toolkit, including Stanford and NYU.
Q: Do I have to have graduated with top grades for this Toolkit to work for me?
A: While it’s important to have excellent grades from your Bachelor’s (and, if applicable, your most recent postgraduate degree) in order to maximise your chances of acceptance, it’s not always necessary to have achieved greater than the minimum grades usually required for Oxbridge postgraduate courses. This is typically at least 2:1 honours, 3.5 GPA, or equivalent in your Bachelor’s degree.
If you have not achieved these grades in your Bachelor’s degree, this Toolkit will very likely not work for you (unless extenuating circumstances gave rise to these marks, and you can justify this in your application along with glowing references who can speak to your potential otherwise).
If you have achieved these minimum grades in your Bachelor’s, but they barely make the cut or they’re still low enough that you’re worried about competitiveness (lower than approximately a 3.8 GPA), this application guide will be able to help you greatly to make your application more competitive. In the case of barely qualifying undergraduate grades, I would also encourage you to check out this reel I made discussing ways you can further boost your competitiveness!
Q: I’m an international student, will this Toolkit work for me?
A: Yes! I myself am an international student, and this application guide contains the exact strategies I used to secure my Oxbridge acceptances. Now that I’ve helped other applicants across disciplines get accepted too, my continuing updates (which you’ll get lifetime access to!) incorporate their feedback so that all guidance is the most accurate and up-to-date advice you can find, based on the successful experiences and patterns of hundreds of recent applicants. While the application process is not any different for international students vs home students (besides English language qualification tests in the case that your native language is not English or your most recent degree was not taught in English), it can be more competitive to win funding for international students. I take this into account when helping you craft a competitive application with this Toolkit.
Q: I’ve already been rejected. Will this still help me, and will reapplying hurt my chances?
A: Being rejected once doesn’t hurt your chances of reapplying – admissions committees do not hold previous rejections against you. What matters is whether your new application is stronger. That’s exactly what this Toolkit is designed to help you do: understand what went wrong, rebuild with the right strategy, and come back with an application that stands out for the right reasons! I and so many others who have gone on to win top Oxbrige offers and scholarships were rejected the first (and even second or third!) time we applied.
Q: I’m an undergraduate student and not ready to apply yet. Will this work for me?
A: Absolutely — and the earlier you start, the better! One of my students Megan (whose story you can watch above) enroled a year and a half before she needed to apply, and she says it’s one of the best decisions she made. Because you get lifetime access, there’s no downside to getting it now.
Q: I’m a working professional and have been out of academia for a while. Will this work for me?
A: Yes. I had been out of academia for three years when I got accepted. Many of my students are working professionals with full-time careers and families who have used this Toolkit to apply and get accepted. You’re not too old, and you haven’t been out of school too long!
Q: I’m applying to a postgraduate course in law, business, or medicine (graduate entry). Will this Toolkit work for me?
A: As I don’t have expertise in professional postgraduate courses like those in business, law, or medicine (ie, graduate-entry medical school), I can’t say with confidence whether the guidance inside will be equally effective for you.
Q: Will this Toolkit work for undergraduate admissions at Oxbridge?
A: No, undergraduate admissions is very different, and I deliberately stay in my lane and only provide postgraduate advice. I’d encourage you to be careful about who you get admissions advice from (at both undergraduate and postgraduate level) and always check whether the person advising you has actually been through the process they’re advising on! (Your future is too important to mess around like that IMO!)

Q: How long does it take to go through the Toolkit?
A: About 6 hours to go through everything in full. Each guide takes around 30 minutes to read and 30-60 minutes to implement. The masterclass trainings range from about 10 minutes to just over 40 minutes. Everything is recorded or in print – nothing is live – so you work entirely at your own pace!
